Cornwall Youth Brass Band

A new season - new members

Twenty new musicians successfully auditioned to join The Cornwall Youth Brass Band for their new season, which started last month, giving it a total strength of eighty members. Membership of the County band is an extra musical activity as all the Musicians also play with a parent band and twenty three of the brass bands in Cornwall as well as one in Devon are now represented.

Following the monthly Rehearsals with their local Tutors, Ian Porthouse, former Principal Cornet of The Black Dyke Band and now Head of Brass Band Studies at The Birmingham Conservatoire, is the Guest Conductor for the four day Christmas Residential Course. He will be joined by David Danford, the Principal Percussionist of the Cory Band, the current European Champions, as Guest Soloist. The young Musicians are keenly awaiting a new composition on a local theme, which Cornish composer Simon Dobson, a former member of the Band, has been commissioned by the Trustees to write for them. The Band have been able to fund this through a generous Bequest from the late Bodmin Bandsman, Michael Pickett.
